Prong Jewellery: Ultra Glamourous Accessories with an Edge

Prong Jewellery rubber boa available in a range of colours from £140.00

Your jewelry has a lot of oomph with a feel of crossing stage wear with influences from the natural shapes inspired by the extreme avante garde of the 30's and nouveau eras. Do go through phases of being inspired by different types of art or do you take your inspiration from the world round you?

Essentially, Prong simply loves to use things that shouldn't be used for jewellery as jewellery. I'm always trying to get more styles into the range, and enjoy finding components in unusual places, such as DIY shops or shop display suppliers. The recent film, Marie Antoinette, is one of my favourites - for the visual feast it gives, more than the script...! The decadence, frivolity and costumes simply equate to a couple of hours of pure indulgence! The recent photo shoot for the new website is inspired by the big hair and pale glamour of Marie Antoinette....

A lot of fetish designers tend to hook up and do collections that compliment each other. Does your jewellery look best with any specific designers at the fair?

Prong Jewellery Corset Collar as worn by Paris HiltonThe great thing about Prong, is that it can match so many different looks and styles. Typically, it goes hand in hand with latex clothes, but don't let that make you think you can't wear it unless you are rubbered up! For the Guys, the Prong Ties are simply fabulous with the dress shirts by Latex 101 - they have even taken Prong ties to their other exhibitions throughout Europe... For the girls, you can always find something at Second Coming, Engineers of Desire or Adixxtion Corsets to compliment our stunning range of posture collars, crystal trimmed necklaces and patent leather eye masks.

Tell us more about the intricate construction of some your pieces and what inspired you to realise your skill.

Prong Jewellery rubber and spiked necklaces range from £18.00 upwardsWhat I love about Prong is the desire to always look for different ways of construction, rather than a conventional casting or sewing method - anything that doesn't involve those two has great appeal. I think that this is due to the 17+ years of sewing, tailoring and rubber manufacturing that I have just got tired of doing the same thing. So I invent new ways of making things. The rubber boa that is original and exclusive to Prong is a direct result of that - come and see one at the next fair to see what I mean!

Is there a functionality to some of your designs within the fetish world?

Most of the items carried by Prong Jewellery are fashion accessories, and not suitable for heavy duty play - that being said, some of the jewellery can (and does) have dog leads and lightweight restraints attached to them by my customers, as well as the custom made service being available if someone has a specific idea in mind...

I love the new range. The flowers with spikes, diamonte or bondage rings are so beautiful. I wear my own personal red roses with spikes choker so often it feels like it's part of me! Its a head on collision of cute and fetish punk, and it's been selling fast. The updates are now on my website, and my wholesalers are ordering it up, but to get to see it soonest, it's at the fairs for the customers to try on and see for real. As well as the roses, my crucifix collection is going down well too. Again, I love the idea of mixing thing up a little, so making crucifixes out of rubber and then sticking great metal spikes through them is great! And they are also available inverted too, for that extra touch of naughtiness...

So much of the SM scene's accessories used to have a very hard edge to them yet yours seem to have a much softer, more finished playful feminine exterior without losing their no nonsense fetish glamour. When do you know a piece looks right? How do you know when your design has arrived?

Most of the time, my designs originate from a feeling, an attitude rather than a picture. Yes, most of the pieces are designed with women in mind, but I always make a choker with a strap long enough that a guy can walk up and wear it straight away too. Basically, it has to have a wow factor. When I show thing to friends, I pretty much know which ones they're going to love, but when they do go, "Wow - that's amazing," I know I've done it!

What direction would you like to take Prong Jewellery in the future?

I love it when I go to a fetish club, or look through fetish clubbing galleries and see people wearing and looking fab in their Prong. On my website, you can become a Prong Member and receive discounts throughout the year, but I may soon start doing a loyalty card as well, so that you can come along to the fair and take advantage of exclusive Fetish Fair Prong Member offers as well - just watch this space!
